Sir Francis Drake died at sea January 28th 1596. Some records show 1595 but this is based in the Julian Calendar. His last journey was on the flagship Defiance and the aim was to attack Panama.

Whilst on the Island of Escudo de Varaguas he contracted Dysentery. This overtook him and he died. Drake's body was placed in a lead lined coffin and slid into the sea a league or two from Nombre de Dios. A copy of the Captains diagram showing "markers" for the final resting place exists. This would indeed be a historic find.
